Building the Cleantech Crossroads

Establishing the Bay Area as the World’s
Leading Marketplace for Environmental Technology

Thank you for attending the "Building the Cleantech Crossroads" conference on Nov. 15 in San Francisco . Your participation helped make the conference a success and helped us to focus our attention on many of the things we need to do to make the Bay Area the global cleantech leader.

With its world-class universities and research institutions, its ability to attract capital and its tradition of innovation, the San Francisco Bay Area enjoys many advantages in providing a fertile environment for the cleantech industry. Much work remains, however, to ensure that what we have achieved so far continues well into the future.

"Building the Cleantech Crossroads" was merely the beginning of a process. We must find ways to attract even more capital, create the necessary physical infrastructure to support cleantech companies, develop the public policies that spur sustainable development and promote the cleantech sector and provide employers with the skilled workforce they need to succeed. To encourage your continued involvement in the discussion and in growing the Bay Area's cleantech sector, we invite you to participate in several upcoming events that are focused on these very issues:

* The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will be hosting a conference on January 14, “Advancing the New Energy Economy in California ” bringing together industry and labor leaders, academic institutions and policymakers to talk about workforce development in the state. To learn more and register click on http://www.acteva.com/booking.cfm?bevaID=146304

* Provide input and recommendations for a strategy to promote Cleantech Sector growth and development in the Bay Area. See http://documents.bayareacouncil.org/CleantechCapital.pdf and provide your input by emailing to amichael@bayareacouncil.org. The Bay Area Council Energy Committee will meet on December 12th to discuss the draft. Contact Andrew Michael at 415-946-8707. The draft strategy focuses on supporting the investments, infrastructure and innovation capacity to enable cleantech companies to flourish in the Bay Area. Contact the Bay Area Council to be involved and drive these policies into implementation at the Federal, State, and local level.

Many participants expressed interest in receiving copies of the presentations that many of the conference speakers delivered. In the coming weeks, most of them will be made available at www.cleantechcrossroads.com.

Thank you again for your participation and support. We look forward to working with you in the future.

Sincerely,

Jim Wunderman
President and CEO
Bay Area Council

Mark Mosher
Executive Director
Commission for Jobs and Economic Growth
